Bayern – Hoffenheim; Second Half

By: Angela | December 5th, 2008

Here we go again. Goal number 18 for Ibisevic. Just four minutes after the restart Hoffenheim go up 1-0 and dd Rensing move, nope not at all. Way to stand around and defend your goal. Sometimes that kid frustrates me to no end. Rensing got a yellow. It’s an interesting game when the calm one on the pitch is Mark.

This half is a mess. Borowski is warming up at the 60th minute. Klinsmann has to do something to settle this team down and get them back on track. I’m really curious why the announcer calls the players the way he does sometimes. Belgian Bull.. I’ve heard Daniel called a lot of things, but never that. I like it. ;) Boro came on for Schweini.

Lahm scored a gorgeous 40 yard goal bringing Bayern an Hoffenheim even 1-1. He was pretty much smothered by the team and I can’t say I blame them. Shortly after, it was Ribery’s turn to shove someone. The ref had to have a talk with all the players involved. This is getting ugly. Hoffenheim seems to be getting away with a lot. It’s no wonder the Bayern players are resorting to shoving people, but I don’t like physical games like that. Toni once again missed an opportunity. He is just having a very hard time getting settled.

Mark keeps getting knocked down and his angry is starting to show, but he’s not been as bad as I would’ve expected in such an aggressive game. Who knew that he’d be the calm, cool, collected one during this game and Miro would be the mean guy?

I’m having a hard time following this with all these fouls every couple seconds here. Hoffenheim had a nice opportunity to go up 2-1, but the ball went just wide. And of course there was another foul shortly after against Hoffenheim, this time by Borowski. At 85 minutes Borowski got a yellow card awarding Hoffenheim a free kick.

Rensing made up for the first half blunder when he he stopped a great play that should’ve been a goal for Hoffenheim. Luca Toni finally scored and made it 2-1 for Bayern and had some weird celebration where he shot the whole team. O.o

Now I am going to go calm my nerves after Bayern picked up a win in a very tumultuous game.

We all got to see Hoffenheim’s MO: Knock a couple of players down innocuously and then play the break with a man advantage. While they are slick and clinical, if they do indeed play like this all the time, they might be in for some trouble in Europe next season.

There were so many open headers for Bayern in the 2nd that should have at least gone closer – Toni many times and a great one by Van Buyten off a corner that should have been put away.

A relatively well deserved 3 points.

I was getting all ready for my lecturing post about poor striker play, and Toni found the golden nugget after panning for 91 1/2 minutes. What a great play, what a classic Bayern play, to slash at not just the heart of the village club, but the whole German soccer fan nation in the dying seconds once again.

This game *needed* to be physical, and I think Bayern played it about right. Even as physical as it was, it was still played on Hoffenheim’s pace for long stretches. There were times when I was screaming at certain players to get back, but look, we conceded one to the undisputed top striker in the Bundesliga at the moment, that’s it I’m not going to complain about the effort at all, even if there were some gasping moments.

AKap is right, that if the finishing had been there at all outside of injury time, we would have racked up a couple more scores. The only counter to that is, what kind of pressure would Hoffenheim have brought to try to level a 2-1 with 20 minutes to go for instance?

So, I think Angela probably isn’t alone in not really feeling good about *how* Bayern got it done today, but the essential about Bayern is that they do in fact get it done, that has been the hallmark of this team for a very long time. I still think there was quite a bit of beauty in amongst the rough stuff, and I’m looking forward to changing our luck in Stuttgart, and maybe sneaking into to grab that Herbstmeisterschaft for ourselves. Well done, boys.

Definitely lived up to the hype. I only wish there could of been less stoppages, but it was a physical game and both teams really wanted it so that is unsurprising. Toni could of scored 4 goals and really I’m surprised he didn’t at least snag a brace. I hope he gets his mojo back. What a great game and how convenient that I got the day off from work so I could watch it live!

This may have been the best all around defensive game by Bayern this season. There were no real times Hoffenheim beat them down the field with numbers as they do very often in almost every game. Every time Hoffenheim broke down the field, Bayern was always able to have at least equal numbers or more to mark people. Even on the Hoffenheim goal, Oddo was in great position until the Hoffenheim forward used a shove to free up the space for himself. Usually a foul, but I guess it’s brilliant if you don’t get caught. Toni uses a good push every now and then too, so I guess I can’t complain. Rensing is scary scary scary… He did make his best save of his career though, leaving the way open for the late game miracle.

I think the game showed that Hoffenheim is one of the better clubs in the Bundesliga. They certainly didn’t turtle and this turned out to be one of the better games this year in the Bundesliga other than the chippiness. The race for the other positions in European play next year looks interesting with Berlin and Hoffenheim adding themselves into the mix with really good first halfs of the season. At least Bayern looks ready to run away again in the second half.

I’ve waited half a year for this! I knew Bayern and Klinsi would eventually pull through like then in 2006 and now.

    FC Bayern Stern des Südens
Du wirst niemals untergehen weil wir in guten wie in schlechten Zeiten zueinander stehen!

You have to admit it’s a catchy tune.

Sure Bayern won, but don’t forget about Stuttgart before the break. That can easily be a let-down game given this result…

Bayern have the best squad in the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga is not as strong as it used to be so once Klinsmann got Bayern to show a little discipline and worked out an effective offensive scheme then Bayern would lead the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim are a good team and next to Bayern they have the second best squad in the Bundesliga but they still are far from Bayern’s quality. Bayern won this match by exploting a defensive mistake which kinda signifies that Hoffenheim are not ready to go toe to toe with Bayern but i expect Hoffenheim who still lead on goal difference to give Bayern a run for their money for the title because they have the quality to beat most of the other teams in the bundesliga but Bayern will take the title in the end. if Hopp continues investing money in Hoffenheim then Hoffenheim vs Bayern will be the new big rivalry in the Bundesliga.

Sosa is being released…. Good. He’s a waste of money, especially now that I have read the Ze will likely stay another year.

OK, looks as if everyone’s on vacation.

After the VFB debacle, harsh words exchanged between the Kaiser and Rensing, and talks about acqusitions, the CL drawing was just completed. We drew against Sporting Lisbon. If I had to pick, this is one of the teams that I think is manageable. Along with the benefit of placing first in our group, I am glad that the second leg is at home.

Hope all is well around the world of FC Bayern fans!

Best draw possible. We won the lottery in drawing Lisbon.
