DFB Cup Draw
By: Angela | August 9th, 2009This round Inka Grings, German Women’s player of the year, handed out a pretty favorable draw for Bayern in the second round of the DFB Cup. Bayern has been matched up against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The last time that Bayern played Oberhausen was in the 1998-1999 season in which they won 3-1. The clubs have met a total of three times in the DFB Cup and each time, Bayern has walked away victorious. The game will either be held on September 22 or 23 at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern were hoping for an easy draw for their home match and they’re all feeling very optimistic about the match against Oberhausen. “The main thing you want as a player is a home tie, so we can definitely be very pleased,” said Philipp Lahm who also thanked Inka Grings for participating in the draw.

And an injury update on van Bommel: He will be out for three to four weeks. He will undergo surgery on his foot on Monday. It turns out that he has ruptured some tendons and brokoen his big toe.
“It’s a real blow for me personally, especially as it’s all started so well,“ commented Van Bommel, who will undergo surgery on Monday. The 32-year-old responded to the injury with a typically fighting reaction. “I’ll be back as soon as I can, and I’ll pick it all up where I’ve left off.“
So I’m sure a lot of you will be very happy by that, but I am very disappointed. And I don’t care what you think of him, how you feel about him or whether or not you think he’s a good player or not. There is no need for hateful comments about any player on the team. We’re all here for one reason and one reason only – to support the team. While we may not always be happy with the coaches choices (my case in point – my disgust with Lell and Lucio last season), but they are the coaches choices and since none of us are with the team on a daily basis and none of us have coach capabilities, we have to venture a guess that the coach knows what’s best for the team – no matter how disappointed we might be with those choices. The bottom line is, this is meant to be a site for supporting Bayern. Not a place for hate.

I hope Van Bommel recovers soon. Although Tymoshchuk will probably claim his DM spot, I don’t want any players injured because it stretches the team and exhausts our options. Hopefully, Van Bommel and Demichelis return soon and be able to compete at a high level again. We will need them badly.

@victor: He is expected to be out 3-4 weeks. I don’t know if he can recover that quickly from foot surgery, but knowing Mark he’ll certainly try. I hope they all get healthy soon enough. Bayern need all the options they can have.

Van Bommel’s injury will have very little effect on Bayern, especially since in van gaal’s system defensive midfielders don’t push forward or initiate offense and add that to the fact that van gaal has turned Bayern into probably the most defensive team in Germany and a team that puts all of its players behind the halfway line once they have scored, there is not that much work for defensive midfielders, Tymoshchuk will fit into the DM spot perfectly and Ottl will be there to back him up. Bayern had three fit defensive midfielders now they have two… it is not like the problem at play maker where without Ribery the replacements are two youth prospects. Tymoschuk will get his chance to show why he was worth 11 million euros.
I wonder if Ribery will come back by next week Bayerns attack has looked lifeless without him there to pull the strings.Posted from
