Bayern got the win in this game, but it wasn’t pretty and it took Robben coming off the bench to get a fire lit under the offense till we finally scored. There was a lot of tension in the air when Frankfurt got the first goal after Bayern had dominated posession for much of the game, but again we didn’t get many clear cut quality chances and none were put away in the first half. Finally Robben gave us some more speed on the right and things started to gel and we got the first goal to tie. Van Buyten getting the second goal was unlikely, but it did happen and it saved the day for Bayern.
I still think LvG is making a mistake playing both Van Bommel and Tymo at the same time as neither has been sharp and neither has been creative or motivated to go forward. Bayern is not getting the right kind of support to the strikers because the build up is too slow and there aren’t enough people moving without the ball and making runs into open space! I can’t remember the last time I saw a midfielder make a long run down the center of the pitch, it has been that long. Some tweeks are needed in midfield and more movement also.
A tough win and I’ll take it, but Bayern still have a long way to go IMO. Hopefully a healthy Robben will help get us going in the right direction.
