Kickoff Party: Bayern Munich vs Hansa Rostock

By: Angela | February 1st, 2008

Bayern Munich vs Hansa RostockThe Bundesliga round 18 kicks off tonight with top of the table Bayern Munich, seperated from Werder Bremen on goal differential, taking on bottom of the table Hansa Rostock who are fighting to stay clear of the relegation zone (they’re just two points away). The match tonight will take place at the DKB Arena in Rostock. Lukas Podolski will be missing from the line as he was ordered off training for a week due to his slipped disc. He is doing rehabilitation training, but will not take part in this particular match. He may be ready to go for Germany’s friendly next Wednesday. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld knows that while Rostock are facing relegation, they will be tough to beat. They’ve got a lot to fight for and it won’t be a walk in the park for his boys at Bayern.

“This is a different Rostock to the team we beat 3-0. They’ve made good progress and we’ll have to be at our best” Hitzfeld said. “Compared to Tuesday’s Cup tie, we need to improve by 20-30 percent” he added.

“Rostock are capable of good football and they’ll keep us busy in defence. They have a strong forward line, and they’re dangerous on the break and at set pieces. We’ll have plenty of work to do” the trainer warned

Rostock suffered an embarrassing DFB Pokal exit against a second Bundesliga side and had an adventurous pre-season in Dubai. So I could see Bayern getting a rather convincing result here. Though, after being starved of football for so long, I rather hope it’ll be a tight and competitive match.:-)

Jan: I just wish I could watch it. I am going to keep my live score open, but unfortunately I’m at work and they would frown on me streaming GolTV for a football match ;)
