It’s taken days for me to digest this game. I could only duck in to the local bar for the first half, but I was disappointed with what I saw. I was at work watching the live ticker and I couldn’t believe what I saw. Thank god for Luca Toni and Ribery in the second half– especially Toni’s fire. I watched the highlights this weekend and when Toni followed his 115 minute ball into the net, grabbed it, ran back to the center and yelled at his teammates to hurry up and get into position for the restart… I think I forgave Italy for beating Germany in the World Cup.

Unbelievable result. I wonder if the game is available for download somewhere — Kahn was right when he said that in 10 years, we won’t be talking about Real or United, we’ll be talking about Getafe… They were amazing — to hold us off for 120 minutes, a man down for most of that… Impressive. Just… wow.

I won’t say that Getafe played badly, but they sure play-acted badly! How about the guy with the quadruple-roll after light contact? I suggest they immediately apply for entry into the Serie A, as they made the Luca Toni look like Ben Stein.

Aaron, thanks for coming to my defence. I’m not sure that I said anywhere that Getafe played like shit. I am still unsure how Bayern managed to win this one because Getafe played their hearts out a man down from pretty much the beginning of the game. Of course I am biased, it’s why I write the Bayern offside, not another one. However, I didn’t say anywhere that Getafe played bad. Anyways, thanks for defending my honor. You’re my hero

Oh, Demichelis didn’t have his best game either. It was really a beautiful disaster for much of Bayern…. You won’t get an argument from me on that one. And yeah, Hudson would’ve been on his last breath during that one, that’s for sure. He probably would’ve gave all of us heart attack’s too.

Jan: Do you think he, as well as all of us, could handle a match like that? I’d probably be even more exhausted if he’d announced.

That was one of the greatest ever games football has produced. It will not be remembered for the beauty of the game but for – the emotions involved, excitement, Getafe’s fighting spirit, and Bayern’s perseverence.What a heartbreaker for Getafe and what a win for Bayern. Bayern sure have a lot of work to do..Coach and the team will have to think about it.

Sid: First of all, Angela never said what you accused her of saying about Getafe. Second of all, of course she’s a bit biased since this is a Bayern blog! So relax a bit before firing off absurd reactionary garbage, ok?

As for the game, I was utterly speechless for about twenty minutes after it ended. That game probably took five years off my life. We played about as wasteful a brand of ball as you could imagine, while Getafe taught us a thing or two about taking the chances that come to you. After all, they scored three goals with 10 men against what is normally a proud, stout defense.

I’d also like to do a bit of Lucio defending (not for the first time, of course) and say that yes, he mucked up the clearance on the third goal, but just watch how every other defender was standing still when that goal was scored. The missed clearance was regrettable, but Lahm and Jansen standing still (after Demichelis got beat) was inexcusable.

But then we somehow finally started making regular chances with our unimaginative passing and possession, and we dominated the extra time the way that we should have. I’m hoping that this can be the type of victory that catalyzes a strong finish to the season. The boys certainly looked like they were playing for each other at the end, and that’s a great sign given the ego trips that they’ve been guilty of recently.

And I’m glad Ray Hudson wasn’t announcing that one, simply because if he were it would have been the end of him, and he’s much too young to be taken from us.
