Went about as well as one could hope. Muller again proves invaluable to this team. I’ve been on the fence with the hype train surrounding him, but the play over the weekend and today was superb. He obliterated Maik Franz. They had the minor spat over the weekend with Franz going after Muller for suspected diving. Well, Muller took that chip on his shoulder and burned him repeatedly. Two assists and the tap in from Klose. MOTM for me.

Klose finally getting some life with a brace and then selfless as ever setting Muller up for the 3rd. Hopefully, this unleashes a torrent of goals from him. Same for Toni who also found net. If these two can kick their finishing into gear the team will take off. Just imagine if our strikers had been finishing well all season, we’d have been dominant.

    Other notables:
Bommel with a fine match. Excellent ball for the 1st goal. Best game so far from him. Braaf is good on set plays and could fill that role for us. He also hustled well tonight and was sharp. If he can keep improving in this league he could put to bed everyone clamoring for a fullback in the January window.

The bad of tonight was Schweini and Tymo. Tymo is hard to fault. He is a DM and not at all a RM. He hustles, pressures, wins balls, tackles well but he has nothing going forwards. He can only pass backwards and to the side. He is ok because it opens up Bommel some to be more offensive as he can create and frankly I don’t understand why LvG doesn’t move Tymo to DM and Bommel to RM, but he has a hard on for Bommel at DM so I find it unlikely he makes the change. Schweini just doesn’t do well in a 4-4-2. He’s been great in our 4-3-3’s when Robbery was healthy but he is not suited for this. He had a better match on the weekend despite many blunders as he set up several great chances via through balls and crosses. Today he was worse. We know one of these two will not start against Stuttgart as Robben will be in. My guess is that Tymo will find himself on the bench. Also, I won’t mention much about the Butt “incident.” He can be bizarre. So capable and steady and then he’ll go do something that makes you scratch your head.

Great to see us win convincingly and with ease. That leaves Schalke, Hoffenheim, Bremen, Koln, Augsburg, Osnabruck and Greuther Furth left in the Pokal. A pretty easy field.

    On Stuttgart:
They have been terrible and it is baffling considering their roster. It should, based on form, not be that difficult a match, but I think we’re in for a real dog fight. If we win this Babel has to be gone, if he isn’t already by the weekend after bouncing from the Pokal on Tuesday.
