WHat a game... Actually, it was methodical and rather boring. Lucio stopped play due to injury, and then when VanBuyten actually took a knock it brought jeers from the crowd.

Toni put it an opportunity goal and Klose forced in a good one. Both good ones since we won.

Ze' hooked it up, I sure hope that God tells him to stay at Bayern. He's such a force on the field.

Please PLEASE, let Poldi go.

Now... on to Hoffenheim. I think we can beat this team of nonstars. Sure they have rocked the 1st Liga, but they just AREN'T FC Bayern. As long as we're firing on all cylinders, all their "team play" sin't enough to overtake us.

We'll be Herbstmeisters

Rensing earned a clean sheet which makes me happy.

Luke: I didn't see the CL match. So thanks for the comments. On Podolski, I don't like him. BUT, I have issues with everyone only talking about him complaining about not getting playing time when that ISN'T the main reason that he wants to leave. What he has said, on several occasions, about why he really wants to leave, everyone is ignoring. That's what aggravates me. I am not a fan of his at all.

I'm watching today's match now and will do a post shortly.

Read no further if you're watching on delay: We'll give Angela the opportunity to do a post but I just have to get it out of my system...That was the match of the season right there. It may not have been the best-played or the prettiest, but it shows this team is serious about being Meister again. Again more analysis later.

Zermatt: I wonder where they get that number. Well, it would double their investment, and Man City would probably pay it, so maybe it'll happen.

Just read an article online stating that Bayern are willing to let Lukas Podolski go for 19.3 million euro according to quotes made by the Kaiser!

Ah, that makes sense Luke. Thanks for clearing it up. Getting very pumped for tomorrow's game. It should be a doozy.

I agree with the above comment that short of another more permanent forward, Poldi is going nowhere. I really don't see much happening transfer wise until summer.

The main concern for Bayern needs to be getting Schweini signed more long term. This summer has potential for being very turbulent, so whatever they can do for continuities sake needs to be explored, and at his age and talent, Schweini is mega important.

Shane: This is my understanding: in the group stage the first tie breaker is points gained against the tied opponent. So, if either team won in Lyon, that would break the tie. The second would be away goals *against the tied opponent*. Right now Lyon have 1 on Bayern. So if Bayern were to score 2 or more goals in Lyon and draw, Bayern wins on that tie break. But what if it's 1-1 again? The third tie break is goal differential for the entire stage--again advantage Bayern. A 0-0 draw would give the group to Lyon based on the 2nd tiebreak, as they would win on head to head away goals, 1-0. Hope that's more and not less clear! The knockout stage is a bit easier!

Luke,
Yes I agree with you about the Russian league, but it is only the recent emergence of the Russians changes the dynamic a bit.

I really don't understand the CL group stage tie breaker process. So it is not goal differential? Im told it is most away goals. If that's the case then we need to win in Lyon to take top spot (Lyon has 8 Away Goals and we have 2, I'm not envisioning a 6-6 tie).

Luke: How did you come up with a non-scoreless draw puts us top of group?

Regardless, of whether we finish 1st or 2nd the draw is going to be brutal. It looked like there could be some cinderella teams in the final 16 but over the last 2 weeks most of that has faded and we are left with a group of juggernauts. It should get very fun come 2009.

There's still a chance for Anorthosis or Bordeaux to sneak in and steal a place though. Top spot in group would give us the opporunity to have a draw against Panathinaikos/Anorthosis, Sporting Lisbon, or Porto all of which I would be happy with, although none of those are slouches. I wouldn't mind facing Real Madrid or Roma at the moment, but in 3 months they could be out of their current slumps and on a roll. If it has to be an English team I pray it is Arsenal.
