Lahm is staying… again

By: Angela | May 16th, 2008

After some very good talks with the board and Klinsmann, Lahm has agreed to extend his contract with Bayern Munich until 2012. Everyone knew that Klinsmann really wanted him to stay but after talks halted and no agreement was made, Lahm expressed a wish to go abroad. He could’ve left the club in 2009 on a free transfer, but has decided to re-sign with Bayern.

“There have been very good talks with the board but also with new coach Juergen Klinsmann in which I sensed a great spirit of optimism which has convinced me,” Lahm was quoted as saying by the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung to appear on Saturday.

Lahm was also recently named to the 26 man preliminary Germany Euro squad. The final squad will be determined on my birthday. :)

This is the right move, for the club and the player, and you’re looking at the future captain I believe. I couldn’t be happier with this development, and the only thing I’d like to see a bit more from Lahm is more prowess in the attacking end. I do think Ribery’s presence kind of mutes that though.

I agree with you Luke. As much as I’d like to see van Bommel as the Captain, I wouldn’t be completely upset by it being Lahm.
