@Gilly, we have been there and done that with Poldi, there is no need to go back in time and try it again. Poldi is not the type of worker that Jupp wants on his first 11, he doesn’t play defense and he doesn’t have a decent work rate. Poldi is a much less talented version of Robben and one of those is enough for Bayern to handle at this point in time!

I was a bit disappointed in what I saw from Leverkusen in the first 45 against Barca, no willingness to go forward at all, just sit back and try to absorb the punches. For playing at home in a situation where they knew that they needed to score I was not impressed at all. Yes, in the second 45 they did look better and they actually even up the score thru a fine header which was nice to see, but in the end Barca just wore them down and their superior skills with the ball finally got the goals that they wanted. Way to much respect in the first 45 and it is pretty damn hard to beat a team if you never take the ball into their end of the field!

    Phil,
For future reference, the plural of Halbfinale is also Halbfinale, not Halbfinalen.

GolTV’s schedule is showing the Bayern-Freiburg match at 7 pm Eastern on Saturday (obviously not live).

Anyone know if someone is showing it real-time?

    RW911,
Usami is on loan at Bayern, so you can’t really loan out a loan player. As far as next year, Bayern did not pick up the option to buy his contract, so chances are that Usami is gone, so no chance for loaning him out in the future either.

As far as Petersen, he is probably learning more through training with Bayern than he would playing somewhere else. Give him time, he could surprise if he gets some playing time (either as a sub, or as an injury replacement).

I saw the Neverkusen match.. stayed up till 3 am doing it and its not that bad a day at work so far.

Let me tell ya, this Barca team is beatable. The runs Leverkusen were making were a proof of that. The goals from Messi were just spurts of sheer brilliance and they too could have been stalled had they marked him well. In the first half, of course, ‘ze Germans’ did the quintessential mistake of showing too much respect to the Catalans.

But mark my words, this team is beatable. And on a good day, excuse me for saying this, even Bayern may find it possible to overcome them.

@RW911 the way to beat Barca is balance between defensive line and offensive end. too much attacking pressure will open in the back but still need to maintain some possession and make a killer counter…..but players have to rotate depending on the exact time frame.. and very little mistake…but a lot of luck….. set pieces need to be well taken…

Phil, can you make a post on how Bayern can defeat Barca or Real? i feel like this is an issue that is going to have to be addressed sooner or later…

We’re actually kind of lucky that we didn’t sign Reus. He’s apparently injured. Players being injured at such a young age may find it difficult to find their form back in a short period of time (even Schweini wasn’t able to play his 100% on his first game back).

But I’m now worried about Germany’s Euro team – a lot of the players are injured. But on the other hand, some good news for German supporters: Germany passed Holland on the FIFA World Rankings (Germany’s now 2nd, behind Spain!)

I have no doubt that Bayern can beat Barca. And all we have to do is replicate our form from the start of the season (I know easier said than done). If we don’t shit our pants and the players really fight for one another and everybody helps out in defense then we can do it. I’m not too worried about offense, I know we can score a couple against Barca but will it be enough? It will be if the entire team executes their defensive duties.

@BabyBrey: I agree about Reus, another example Nuri Sahin. He got an injury and now at Real he can barely make any impact. At some point they didn’t even think he was good enough for the 1st division. I noticed that Reus is actually frequently injured.

    a couple of things:
    1. It looks like Olic has stirred the pot with Nerlinger, because now Lewondowski is saying he’ll listen to all options. I think he’s our main target for striker, and a much better buy than any young unknowns. The question is when the deal is done. I think Bayern wants confirmation so they can deal with Olic.
    2. On B04 and Barca, I agree with the general take that they gave Barca too much respect. If they could have cleared the ball better to their forwards and maintain some possession, they would have scored another goal. They gave the ball away too many times as they were attacking with players making promising runs. The plan was blown with the 1st goal. At 0-0, that goal to start the 2nd half could have rattled Barca, and they could have gotten the draw. Instead, B04 actually “woke” up the giant. Credit to Pep, he motivated his team to “win” the tie and go for it all. Barca started to play better than they have in weeks, as B04 tired. But, Barca are definitely beatable. The key to beating them is the GK. Leno is only 19, and should have done better on 2 goals, especially the first. To beat Barca, the GK has got to make at least 2 top shelf saves to inspire the rest of the team. And, that’s why we bought Neuer.

I dont know if anyone has noticed but now with Breno out we have more coaching staff than we do defensive field players on our back line and our bench subs. Well actually we dont have any bench subs since they are all hurt! Fucking hell management! Your plans to get us to the final at home must be pretty damn secretive because with out a proper defense AND SUBS, I just dont see it happening. You better hope to god that Boateng doesnt get hurt because as of right now he is our most important player due to DvB and Breno out. I feel for Neuer right now because he needs to step up his game even more than he did with Schalke in the CL run last season!

We bought/are keeping Petersen and selling Olic? i cant understand why and perhaps thats why I’m a banker and not running a club but honestly what is KHR thinking? I’m not sure Lewandowski would come to FCB, they all seem to hate Bayern at the moment.

Olic has “heart”… knowsaying? plays his heart out and an all out clean family guy who can’t move cuz his kids are stuck to Germany. I know that, like Robben, his weapons are those sudden bursts of runs but he isn’t that old yet! Look at him fighting for a place when Petersen couldn’t even score that much in chances given to him (no bias against Nils). It would really set a bad example for other players that even if they put their heart and soul into improving themselves, there isn’t much that would change!

And respect to Muller. I’ve gotta say it. That kid is class.

Yes I hate his ungainly gait, his at-times dawdling runs, weird expressions and that bloody random grin. But oh god did he win the hearts of crowds in India with that warmth he displayed to the crowd or what! He was the only one who seemed to LIKE the crowd cheering (the other ones as animated were Olic and Tymo) It really nice of him to display such maturity at such a young age. I really want him to do well but hate to see Robben benched. Hope things work out for the better… if only Kroos could play a good CDM.. sigh.

RW911: If you are a banker then you should know that Petersen’s value will most likely increase a whole lot more then Olic’s value. Not that Bayern thinks that way but still :p

Hey for those of you looking for a stream for next week’s UCL match, Foxsoccer2go is running a free 7 day promo from now until the 26th. I tested it today on the Arsenal match and it is great! Take a look.

I normally hate Fox, but wanted to see the match. It was free and a great stream.

BTW, Arsenal looked as bad or worse than Leverkusen!

We are going to lose a lot of players this summer. Olic, Pranjic, Breno will be injured for a looooooong time, Usami. Plus we already have a freakishly small squad. We need to sign a lot of new players or promote from reserves.

Other than Olic how much have Pranjic, Breno and Usami played for us this season???

Olic will be the only one that will be hard to replace. And I welcome the chance of seeing some new faces on the bench for Bayern, maybe one of them will make an eventual impact.

Just some horrible defending from Arsenal today, never thought they would play that bad on defense and their midfield didn’t create much at all for RVP, on the other side of the coin Milan played much better then expected, they have many weapons and you can’t give them time on the ball in the final third.

I have seen that some of you asked about the new danish 16 year old kid, Pierre Højberg, we bought, and i thought that i would tell you some about him.

He prefers to play in central midfield, and is one of Denmarks brightest u-17 talents. According to one of my friends who have been playing against this kid several times, he has great ball control and lovely passing skills. And his vision for the game is fabulous. Bit of a Xavi guy, with great passes but not so physically strong. And according to Goal(dot)com he can play right mid as well.
