Bayern 0 - 2 Cottbus

By: Angela | March 15th, 2008

Miroslav KloseFirst I want to say to all of you out there, thanks for sticking with me here at the Bayern Offside. I enjoy all your comments and the interaction with all my readers. I am glad to have you all on board!

The game was on a delay airing for me, so I’m a little bit behind with this and most of you probably already know we lost. But here it is anyways. :) Wow. I kind of expected us to take a loss eventually. As much as I would’ve liked to have had a perfect season, I wasn’t expecting one. However, I didn’t think our first loss would come again Energie Cottbus. In watching the game, one thing was certainly clear, Energie wanted to win. They came out strong and definitely brought the game to Bayern. There was a goal by Ribery, but it was taken away.

Our midfield was a mess. I will be glad when van Bommel gets back. I was very unimpressed with the way that Bayern played today. Energie clearly wanetd to win more. They played an amazing game. Schweinsteiger isn’t fit and was a terrible decision to play midfield. They replaced him at the half with Sosa. Lahm was also replaced by Jansen. At 65 minutes, Podolski replaced Lell.

The thing I can say about the game today, Klose really knows how to roll nicely. I am unsure if this has anything to do with him doing all the flips, but he certainly knows how to roll when he gets knocked over so as to not hurt himself. Style and grace. Funny how taking a hit can turn into something so elegant looking. ;)

Below is a break down of yellow cards and goals.
// Jelic x2
// Ziebig, Rivic, Angelov, Radeljic, Lucio, Lell

Well, don’t forget we lost at Stuttgart. Ok, a few people I want to have a word with:

Hitzfeld: Less rotation tactics, more practicing penalties!! What is it with this team and missing penalties??

Klose: Shoot the $&@$ ball!! Why do you feel the need to make the extra pass every time?

Podolski: We were in black, not red. I know, it’s confusing.

Lucio and Lell: Combining forces to market a line of cement cleats ay?

Schweini: 1st goal was actually your fault, as your miserable tackle attempt preceding it delayed your retreat to defend. Go to Italy. Please.

van Bommel: I know, you didn’t play-but when you’re out there, we actually tackle. Might have made a difference today. And we could have been spared the Demichelis drama.

Finally, I do not want to see a smiling Felix Magath on Wed…

Luke: I agree on the missing van Bommel. Obviously. Midfield was a mess and I can’t help but think it was due to his absence. I am ready for him to be back.

Klose… he is FAR too unselfish. He needs to not be that way. There are plenty of times that he could easily take the shot, but he seems like he wants to help his teammates more than himself.

Lucio: again.. unimpressed with him completely.

The game was a mess today. A complete mess.

I feel really bad. I was really happy to see Energie Cottbus playing that well and making that push out of the relegation zone, but at the same time, it must hurt Bayern fans like nothing else to lose like that.

So sorry from all Cottbus fans.

It is a big deal. Bayern can NOT afford to play games like they’ve already got the title wrapped up and that’s exactly what they did yesterday. They came out and played a brilliantly disastrous game. Daniel van Buyten said it best “We didn’t show up,” admitted Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten. “We weren’t aggressive enough, our passing was pedestrian, and we couldn’t find any gaps.

“Cottbus simply sat back and waited to hit us on the break. The first half was the worst we’ve played all season. Anyone thinking we’ve already won the league is making a huge mistake. Everyone wants to beat Bayern, so it’s a mistake to go out there thinking: maybe it’ll be easy. We didn’t invest enough in the game. Cottbus were much more alert, but we let our heads hang. We didn’t do enough to take anything from the game.”

The bottom line is that Cottbus wanted the win more than Bayern. They showed more heart, desire and passion and walked away with a well deserved win. We can not afford to continually drop games.

Nothing I’ll add hasn’t been said. Luke summed it up well.

Everyone looked completely sluggish and distracted. How many shots on target did we have? 2 or 3? There was no communication, no creativity, and no sense of urgency. Sometimes teams need to have days like this to help them regain their focus and rededicate themselves to the cause. I’m just worried that we may have been a bit exposed as having a slow and sluggish defense. We’ll have to see if Leverkusen exploit this and hopefully be able to patch it up before the boys play Getafe.

I thought maybe we had turned a corner after last week. Clearly I was wrong.

Aaron: Hopefully Leverkusen will help us get back on track. Demichelis is back in the line up after apologizing to Hitzfeld. They have cleared the air and he will be back in the starting line no doubt. Unclear on which position, but he’ll be back none the less. Hopefully this was a lesson to the team that they can not have games like this.
