Bayern 08/09 Kits

By: Angela | June 23rd, 2008

A while back I wrote about the possibility of the new away kits for Bayern. Turns out I was right. Bayern has revealed that this is their new away kit. Though, they refer to it as black so maybe it’s just a bad picture. The picture found with the confirmation is the same as the one previously posted and also looks blue, but they say it’s black. Maybe it’s lighting?

Also, with the reveal of the away jersey comes the reveal of the new Euopean jersey for next season, pictured left. On the jersey’s, you will notice the stars. Bayern have three which is granted to teams with ten or more league titles. One star signifies three or more titles and two stars signifies five or more titles.

The same collar as Liverpool T shirts…Adidas sucks! ..why can’t they make different designs for different teams…at least the big ones!???

It’s a little too simple for my taste, but at least it’s not ugly. Is there any word on the look of the home jersey and if they’ll add the fourth star?

Mat - I agree. Though they aren’t bad.

Juliet - I posted about the stars. Three is given to teams with ten or more league trophies so I guess they aren’t getting a fourth just yet. I don’t know what the rules are for a fourth star. Just one, two and three.

I also haven’t seen/heard/read anything about the home jersey but when I do, I’ll post it.

They are supposedly getting the fourth star, because last season was the 20th Bundesliga title (some confusion generated by the fact that Bayern won one title pre-Bundesliga..of course Schalke have the opposite problem..) I’m not really buying that these are the actual jerseys, but I’m kind of using the 4-star thing as my basis for that. So, I’ll work on finding some credible source for the 4-star thing.

Here’s a pretty reliable source. You don’t even really need to understand German–although there might be an English version of the article, I’m too lazy to track it down http://www.bundesliga.de/de/liga/news/2007

Thanks Luke for the link to the article. I’ve not seen an English version, but basically it explains that the DFB (the German football body) has offically awarded FC Bayern their fourth star.

I found the last paragraph really interesting - I’d not seen this before:

    Speziell gefertigtes Bundesliga-Logo

    In English, this says:
The current German champions have a further privilege: they are the only club in the Budesliga who are allowed to use the “Meister-Badge” (Champion Badge)- a specially-created Bundesliga logo on the sleeve of their jerseys. This badge has the stylized player not in white, but in gold.

So that will be another thing to look for on the new jerseys - the “Meister-Badge”.

Oh, and Mat - not only do they share the collar with the Liverpool jerseys, but also the German national jerseys from this year’s Euro. I agree - Adidas should make truly unique kit for each individual team!!

Actually the Meister-Badge isn’t new, I remember them having that two years ago on their jerseys. Its just the same bundesliga badge all teams wear but the player on the badge is gold instead of white. The team that won the league the previous year gets to wear that badge on their sleaves the following season. I believe most leagues do something like this, I know that the Premier League does and thought I have seen mentions of other leagues doing it as well.

Oh and I hate to double post but I forget to finish my thoughts. I dont think these are the final jerseys for two reasons. The first being that they only have 3 instead of 4 stars and the second being that the champions league jersey has the stripes all the way down the sleaves. I’m not particularly fond of the design but the new Adidas kits coming out have the 3 stripes only coming halfway down the sleaves. Its a recent change as all the replica euro 08 jerseys had the full stripes but the jerseys that actually got used only had the half stripes.

It could very well be that these are just a prototype of what they will look like when all the changes are made. Don’t worry about double posting. I want full thoughts even if it takes you five posts :)
