Man of the Match: Rene Adler. I like how Lucio was used on the right. Why didn’t anyone think of that before? vBuyten was a bit shaky, but he settled well, and Podolski was committed. If only he showed this much verve throughout his stay at Bayern. Bayern could have taken over on goal diff had the blasted Adler not played so well.

The numbers don’t lie, but I do think Gomez achieves them rather quietly. Maybe the player that seems “quiet” depends on your individual attention. I always marvel to see Kuryani at 11 or 12 goals for instance. I guess with him though, you miss seeing 3 matches, and there you go. I think Bayern were really interested in Gomez for a while but probably the combinaton of the Euro and an unsatisfactory asking price, and maybe, just maybe the buyer’s remorse associated with Podolski made them turn their attention to Olic. Which is fine, I think “poor striker play” is fairly low on the Bayern list of deficiencies. However, I would like to look up how many of their last 10 penalties Bayern has missed (I would bet it’s at least 5..maybe 5 by Ribery alone).

OK Jan, point taken! I hadn’t realised he pulled level with Grafite on 23 goals apeice as leading goal scorer of the Bundesliga this term! I’ll eat my words on this one! But still in my opinion he would not fit in at Bayern let alone reproduce any worthwhile form.
