Bayern return to training and Uli Hoeneß is pissed…
By: Angela | January 8th, 2008Bayern returned to training yesterday, but they were missing Marcell Jansen (rehab after surgery), Franck Ribery, Daniel van Buyten and Lukas Podolski due to the flu. Franck, Daniel and Lukas are all expected to train today though.
“I’ve heard they all reported back punctually,” Uli Hoeneß told the daily news conference afterwards. “That was certainly a positive sign,” added Hitzfeld, declaring himself “utterly delighted at returning to the Säbener Strasse and seeing the team and the board again.”
And, Uli Hoeneß is pretty pissed at Stuttgart right now.
Bayern manager Uli Hoeneß has hit out at his Stuttgart counterpart Horst Heldt for trying to unsettle striker Lukas Podolski.
Hoeneß Criticises StuttgartHe has reacted angrily to what he perceives as open courting of their player.
“It’s not right to flirt with a player in this way, who still has a two-and-a-half year contract with his club” Hoeneß said.
“I don’t know how Stuttgart would react if we said that we were interested in Mario Gomez.”
The Bayern manager, who is never one to avoid a confrontation, asked the Swabians to “follow proper etiquette in future.”
Maybe they won’t be letting go of Lukas just yet.
And if you want some entertainment, head over to The Bundesliga Offside to see a clip of Luca Toni in the movies.

The difference between courting Gomez and courting Poldi is that Gomez is the top starting striker for Stuttgart, while Bayern have wasted Poldi on the bench for a season and a half. I don’t want Poldi to go, and I’d be interested to see if Bayern could develop a second position for him as a midfielder, but at the same time it’d be thrilling to see the upcoming generation of German forwards playing together. I’d hate to see him wasted for years (à la Santa Cruz), only to finally have to leave and shine in another league entirely.

It’s not like Franz Beckenbauer didn’t court Armin Veh as potential Hitzfeld replacement one or two weeks ago and Horst Heldt was happy to point that out and reminded everyone how ex-Stuttgart coach Felix Magath ended up at Bayern… As long as Bayern constantly pull of stunts like that Klose-Airport-Cafe episode, they can’t expect any love or respect from the other clubs.

Jan: I was thinking, when they said that Heldt called him a hypocrite that it was pretty much about Miro. But, I was unaware of the Felix Magath situation until I read the article. Still fairly new to the football scene
It seems apparent that while Bayern don’t intend to use Poldi, they have no intention of letting anyone else either.
