We need a deep bench for so many games. With the DFB CL and league play we need it. Remember the “7 games in 21 days” month? Ran us ragged. Player may not like rotating but I’m a fan of it. Some more suited for CL play, league play etc…

My feeling is, Pranjic will be used more offensively on the left, so perhaps we’re going to see a 4-3-1-2. He also slots in as a replacement for Ribery (sooner or later) in a 4-4-2. I am thinking van Gaal’s interest in him is tied to his club play, which was not at the back. So I think there’s still a right back to come.

Everyone keeps forgetting how bad the centre of defence were this last season gone! Nothings changed there in this department and still needs to be worked on in my opinion!

VG will need to stop the leaking of goals through the middle! Notice how no one in the marketplace want’s Lucio services after his incompetant performances this season?

If I’m not mistaken the fullbacks setup looks like this: Lahm and Pranjic on the left or Lahm / Gorlitz / Lell on the right, but that would leave only Pranjic on the left something doesn’t added up?

I agree with Luke that Pranjic might just be Brazzo Mark II, but as far as I remember, Brazzo lined up on the wing, and only slotted at the back during emergencies. What’ll happen if Pranjic goes down for a game or two? Goerlitz coming back might provide depth, but again, the coach might start looking at Lell. Lucio at right back was an interesting experiment though.

Sosa coming on now is good, and I’m glad the patience might just pay off. Micho also took a few years coming on too, and I think he’s better than he seemed this past season. Breno might be in the same vein.

With the depth Bayern has in MF, I wonder how van Gaal will set things up: 4-3-1-2, with Ribery in a joker role maybe?

Well Luke, it’s also true that Lamm prefers the right side anyway, so this also could mean Pranjic will be on the left, Lamm will move to the right, and Lell will move back to the bench where he belongs. Now all that is needed is a world class keeper and some depth to back up the outside fullbacks and Bayern will be set with the depth needed for a long champions league run.
It does appear Ze Roberto is gone now, but the midfield issues were preaddressed during the winter transfer period. As much as I loved the way Ze played last year, opening up more playing time for Altintop and Borowski won’t be a bad thing. Sosa also really took a step up during the last part of the year and showed that he may be ready to try and become the long term solution.

The acquisition of Danijel Pranjic really throws open the door to a lot of speculation. Bayern have not had a player this versatile since “Brazzo”. One thing has remained consistent; Pranjic has always played on the left. So this could signal a hedge against losing Ribery, or just as easily, a signal that LVG wants to use Ribery differently than his predecessors. If the latter is true, it may be bad news for Schweini. A further possibility is Pranjic at left back, a spot he has frequently occupied for Croatia. In that scenario, Lahm moves over to the right to plug that hole. I don’t see that as the plan personally, although I wouldn’t say we’ll never see that alignment. Pranjic is reportedly excited to be playing with Olic, and perhaps we can expect some thrills from these two who already know each other well.

I would agree Luca Toni’s days are probably numbered if someone comes up with proper cash for a transfer, as Mario Gomez is very much the same type player as Toni… great finisher, very average at everything else… but many years younger and much more upside. I’d really like to see a right back and a goaltender soon though as it would be nice to see what we will be going in to next year with and I will vomit if they trot Lell out on the field next year.
