zermatt: If van Buyten goes, it is likely Ribery would follow. He has already said when Daniel leaves, he will go with him. And when Real were looking at him, he told them he'd only come if they agreed to take van Buyten - which they did, but the deal didn't go through.

I guess the question is now whether Bayern can sign a new right back before the transfer window closes. As far as I am concerned there is only one player left on the team roster whom I class as "Dead Wood" and that player is Christian Lell!

As for Michael Rensing I'm prepared to give him another season to prove us all wrong, as I still remember his fantastic displays in goal against AC Arseholes in the Champions League three seasons ago!!!

My predictions in 12 months time, is that Bayern will lose Franck Ribery, Luca Toni and Daniel Van Buyten in the transfer window of summer 2010! Simply because both Ribery and Toni will only have one season left on their contract and Bayern will want to cash in on them. Whereas Van Buyten will be a free agent next summer!

Stuttgarter Kickers 0:10 FC Bayern Munich

Well, that's a little more like it! I had a real junk feed, so I only actually saw two of the goals in full motion, but it seems like a few of the boys finally got sick of running around in circles and accomplishing nothing. Not much to apply to actual Bundesliga play, but it's nice to see Müller making some nice plays and building some confidence, and for the club to wake up and play with half the players missing. One thing of value that can be taken from this match I think, is that we definitely can be sure we have more skilled depth than last season.

We'll all have a better idea about the formation and line-up once the captain is named. If vB is named captain, then chances are Tymo will be on the bench. If it is someone else, then most likely vB won't feature at the start and Tymo will take the DM spot.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Ribery at the top of the diamond. I think he's been quite effective wide and cutting in. Otherwise he might end up like Rooney at MU, where his tactical effectiveness is diminished if he is boxed out of the center of the pitch.

I'd like to think the current formations are just to get a feel of the team, since a lot of players, especially the wide ones, Ribery, Schweini etc. are still working themselves into match fitness.

from what i have read from bild and TZ, Demichelis plays in practice as the right center back and Badstuder plays as the left center back and they have kept with this paring for all the friendly games they played so far and they did so in the T Home Cup though Van Buyten was injured... Bayern lost to hamburg and with van gaal saying Bayern played a bad game both attacking and defending... this loss was expected wit so many new starting players that are not accustomed to each other... but there are squad problems as well, Timoschtschuk and van Bommel play the same position , they are both defensive midfielders, van gaal only plays with one defensive midfielder so Timoschtschuk is now forced to play on the right the problem with that is that Timoschtschuk has no real flair or creative ability and it makes Bayerns attack off balanced to the left and is responsible for the lack of creativity Bayern has exhibited so far... its still early and things might change but if they don't Timoschtschuk will probably loose his starting place and Altintop will get to start as he was the player who replaced Timoschtschuk against hamburg.

LvG has stated that his formation (4-4-2 with a midfield diamond) is centered around Ribery who will play at the top of diamond. From A team training they have played Van Bommel at DM spot with Tymo on right and Pranjic on left, however; Tymo is pinched in and providing plenty of defensive duties while Pranjic is wider and more attacking. On the right Lahm provides most of the width play.

Looking forward to the season!

At least in training Van Buyten has been favored over Demichelis and Breno. Also, as of late it seems Badstuder is not as in favor. I really hope we make a move for a fullback before this transfer season is done. I loved Lucio's passion and spirit and he was clearly our best CB last season, but he wanted out and this is the only time we could cash in on him. Sound move by management.

I don't think anyone really believes Badstuber is going to be a regular in the squad. Yeah, he might get the start against Mainz and Freiburg, but I don't expect to see him much in the CL. To speak to John's point, there has to be more than one way to succeed, or everyone would play the exact same style. I'm not so bold to say that every decision LVG makes is the right one, but winning trophies is more important than lasting a long time. So, if it is madness, there's a method to it.
