Tough break to not have Robben, but better to not re-injure himself. This is not a must win match. I’d settle for a draw, although Bordeaux is looking vulnerable after losing their last two league matches and barely scraping past Haifa at home in their latest CL.

Expecting the line-up to be the same as Freiburg except Pranjic for Braafheid.

    —————-Butt——————–
    –Lahm—–Buyten—Badstuder–Pranjic–
    —————Bommel——————-
    ——-Tymo—————–Pig———
    —————Muller——————-
    ———-Klose——Toni—————

I felt this was a trash line-up against Freiburg. It has no creativity and is a very defensive team. Thus, the lack of goal scoring chances against Freiburg wasn’t a surprise. You just don’t trot this line-up out when you play a lower level Bundesliga side in a game you must get 3 points. Very lucky of us to get those two goals and win that match. Now against Bordeaux on the road where a draw would be a fine result, I don’t have much of a problem with this team.

I still like Sosa when Robben/Ribery are out as he is one of our few creative options. Tymo brings nothing to the table going forward. Schweini cannot beat players off the dribble. Bordeaux will clog our left side knowing nothing will come from the right. We may be able to have the lion’s share of possession but we will create very few goal scoring opportunities. We’ll have to hope for a killer finish from Toni on the one chance he gets the whole night or a fortunate deflection or set play opportunity. Then hope the defense doesn’t have a mental lapse.

I’ll be irrationally optimistic and predict a 1-0 result with a Toni fluke goal.

One other note: Bordeaux is going to funnel every attack at Pranjic. He is the weak link in our defense and they will go for him mercilessly to avoid facing Tymo/Lahm on the right. I don’t know if Pranjic can handle it. He has been poor defensively. Schweini will need to have an excellent game enabling the attack (b/c Tymo provides nothing forward) and protecting Pranjic. Unfortunately, Schweini is a far better center mid than a winger. Going to be a tough assignment for him.

I want to see crosses, lots of them. And this is not related to my disdain for the recent spate of vampire crap in the mass media.

Klose and Toni should be able to have at least 2-3 good header opportunities with Mueller possibly ready to pounce on a loose ball. But that of course means wide play and like Shane mentioned, which will depend on how Pranjic responds to being the focal point of the defense.

I disagree, to tie or lose to Bordeaux would be a blow to Bayern’s rep. This is a game that they should win for easy points.

Pranjic is terrible. I wish club management would just force Lahm back to the left, stop playing around, and pick up a real right back in the winter. And unload Toni, unless he demonstrates soon that he can do something useful. This nonsense has gone on long enough. The latest word I’ve read is that Demichelis and Van Bommel will be available. I’ll believe it when I see it!

Juliet, normally I’d agree but when you are missing the people Bayern is right now, a tie on the road against a quality opponent is fine.
