Rasputin Van Gaal To Be Retained Until Season’s End – Board Unable To Find Better Solution
By: CJH | March 6th, 2011Everyone’s Favorite Tabloid leaked the story as soon as I decided the lines of communication would probably go dead for the rest of the night–but as of this hour, 5th place FC Bayern Munich appear committed to retaining coach Louis van Gaal through the end of the season.
Update: On Monday, the team confirmed via a press release that Van Gaal would leave at the end of the season.
A five and a half hour meeting among the upper management group apparently ended with no consensus over who could be brought in to replace him.
What has not been reported, but something I feel may be happening here, is that Nerlinger is sticking up for Van Gaal within the discussions, acting as the players’ advocate. There has been surprisingly little collective blowback reported from the players as the crisis intensified over the last 5 days.
It seems to me that this decision means there will be only 1 match worth of Champions League action in Munich next season. While it is not impossible that Van Gaal could turn the tide with the amount of talent available to him, I can’t support this decision. But if Bayern are to find new levels of motivation and focus and pull themselves up into the top 3 of the Bundesliga once again, I’ll be the first one to say in clear and certain terms that I was wrong. That’s more than you can ever expect out of Louis van Gaal..

There is also the law of diminishing returns with those two that you are talking about and it has been coming for quite some time now! Or just check out some of Demi's La Liga games if you dare.
And if I remember right there was also a younger person that played central defender quite a bit last season too.

how many of you guys think players are playing against LvG? if this is a case, what r our chances of winning this Saturday and INTER CL home game?

-

Turned it down?- Why?- He has so much of Bayern in him….He cried the day he finished in 2008- Everyone cried that day….Why wouldn't he want to come back to the club that cried the day he left?

So my other comment got blocked by DISQUS… Here's the latest rumours from Germany from you know where…
VG till summer, Heynckes till next summer, and then Löw!
Sounds ridiculous, but so was the way Bayern management handled this one. I sure hope there's a game before the CL match to make sure the players have not completely flipped out yet.
EDIT: Imagine Magath and VG make it an all German CL final after Schalke vanquishes Barca and Bayern Real both through immense gooalkeeping. With Neuer pulling an Oli Kahn to win it. Then they both get fired as agreed to. That would be hilarious and so typically German.

-

I'd like to see how much T-Mobile plan to outlay on sponsorship in 11/12 if we do not get that CL spot…

-

can someone please tell me, what did bayern gain from sacking him? He's not leaving yet, he's leaving at the end of the season.. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS!?

-

That's beside the point. High salary numbers mean the club expects more of everything, including responsibility, from the players, just as in most job markets. If a player cannot handle playign in the biggest clubs, that's his problem. The club, in the end, is not a charity based around entertainment.

-

Nick, where does this stuff come from? It's too good to be true, I'll believe it when I see it.

-

If that's the case, I would be the first one to say Schweini and Lahm need to be stripped of the captain's band. Losing games to express frustration with the coach…. there are much more constructive ways to deal with such situations.
Why can't we accept that a frustrated and confused coach misplayed frustrated players and we've gotten beaten by three good teams who were well prepared and had a little luck on their side.
Take a week sit down and air out the laundry, make adjustments, and try to play better as a team.
Nobody wants to be embarrassed against Hamburg or Inter. LvG wants to win, even if he's leaving. The players have the same task no matter who is coaching.

-

Widely reported throughout the German press, but I would argue that the inclusion of Löw is either a) a trial balloon or b) a desperate attempt to show they have some kind of long term plan, which they don't.

-

They're not. It's one of the reasons he's still around.

Bild!

Hey Luke, thanks for keeping this going. It's great to have a conversation amongst Bayern loyalists and fans alike during such interesting times.
One piece of good news… Hamburg are just as screwed up as us at the moment. LOL!
And, do you or anybody have any decent english speaking news sources to recommend.

-

Thanks Luke… I feel better now.

And I just read that Rafa is leading the foreign pack?!?! F%&K him! I would rather see Klinsi come back and I hated him (as trainer)! Even the Special One (whom I really despise!!!!) would be a better pick than Rafa! Anyone but Rafa!

Perhaps this “news” is a safety measure: If VG pulls us out of this mess, his “termination” is reconsidered. If he fails, he is gone and the Bayern community is placated. I am in disbelief, still, that they would do something as stupid as announce a contract termination at such a vital point in the season, 3 months before it will actually happen

Read it and weep!! from:bundesliga dot de
As it stands though, never since the introduction of the three-points-for-a-win rule have Bayern had so few points at this stage of the campaign (42). On the personnel front, the team is not greatly changed from last season, with one notable exception: Ivica Olic, an almost talismanic figure in the double-winning line-up, has been unavailable since undergoing an operation to remove damaged cartilage last autumn. In 2009-10, the tireless Croatian frontman bagged 19 goals and laid on eight more in his 41 competitive appearances and was looking forward to “carrying that performance level over” into the current campaign
Lacking bite
It is at the back though that Bayern's biggest problems are to be found. They have already conceded two goals more (33) than in the whole of last season in the league, during which they never let in more than two in a single game. This time around, they have leaked three at Mönchengladbach, Stuttgart and Hannover, and at home to Dortmund. Last season, Hans-Jörg Butt kept out more attempts on his goal than any other Bundesliga keeper (79.4 percent).
The winter departures of skipper Mark van Bommel and central defender Martin Demichelis also appear to have had a negative impact, gauging at least indirectly from the team's foul count. Bayern have been pulled up for 297 fouls so far this season, an average of around twelve per game – the lowest in the league by some distance. En route to winning the title last year they showed considerably more bite, averaging 15 fouls a game.

anyone know why MvB depart from FCB, LvG or Board? i know we made money out of Demichelis and he was wanting to leave so it was ok. Gustavo is main replacement for MvB and he is design for CDM, we use him as LB then we could just bring back Tymo to CDM. why Pranjic always in starting XI. we have 5 defender and we are only using 2 at a time. Contento was missing in action for long time. if he is not suitable why don't we loan him out.
I want to see Kroos and Muller attacking line up for a change. or Muller and Klose work well in NT, can Ribery play in the hole since he can pass or assist easier when crowded.
i'm not going to directly compare with Barcelona. The way Daniel Alves play he is always available when there is hung space for him to attack. can Lahm take risk to attack while Robben is in cutting to middle position, he should be free to roam like Daniel Alves.
if Robben has clear chance he can shoot directly to goal or pass it to Lahm or anyone in middle so there are more choice for him to use as playmaker .
for some reasons the way we use Robben and Ribery is missing link… they both have to connect somehow in attack to use better striking partner.
the way we are playing is Ribery , Robben , Muller and Gomez each staying in the position but not really link up play in front of the penalty area.

Yeah, because your salary and playing quality on the field ALWAYS go hand-to-hand. I guess that makes Rooney one OVER-PAYED player then. Manchester should probably sell him, huh? Because, you know, just cuz United pay him all that money Rooney should be scoring goals game-in and game-out.

-

probelem is, Lahm have to cover our backline asses everytime…

-

Well exactly, Manchester SHOULD sell Rooney, because he's a financial black hole in relation to his playing quality. You're just reinforcing my point, that players should live up to their salary numbers and if they don't, then perhaps they have no business getting such money and playing for as prestigious clubs.

I'd love to know more of the inside dirt on the MvB move as well as the rest of the team dynamics. Some of what I have heard is disturbing, if true. You can only motivate players with fear of embarrassment and benching them for so long.
I sympathize with Jon here. I also agree with Scalia. I read the article about our “battlers” and think it would have been different with Tymo and Schweini in the holding role. Breno is a big guy, not tall, but tough. And, Gustavo has shown he can be as well.
The team is in two parts with our 4 most dynamic players involved in 30% of our overall game. And, it's gotten worse since Ribery and Robben started playing together. Lahm and Schweini have been over stretched and being asked to hold down an ever changing defensive set up and add the extra support to maintain possession until somebody does something up front.
I'm not upset about Demichellis, he didn't want the responsibility and his performances at Malaga confirm it. And, even though DvB doesn't want to be the main guy either, he should still be used as a clutch veteran who can fill in admirably when somebody has a knock or otherwise not 100%. He'll get fried if he's in week in and week out, but you should be able to count on him for games in the BL. And, not for scoring goals.
And, back to the board,… it's another ???, we make MvB the first non-german captain ever and then let him leave midseason. Again, not the normal tyrannical board. I know they said it was to reward him for his service and I can almost buy that, but still it is very unBayern.
Lot's of questions for all parties to answer. Hopefully, the line up and tactics against Hamburg will give us some answers and a few goals.
I'll take a clue from the rumor mill. Heynckes and Lowe. Even if we don't get them it's still a statement about where we want to go. Heynkes builds steady defenses, plays on the conservative side, but uses his attacking players carefully and precisely. And, he gets consistency from his teams. Lowe tells me that Lahm and Schweini are gaining some clout and the team understands everything LvG wants to do without him. Lowe got alot out of a firm defensive mid and quick, creative counterattacks. We have the personnel that I could see heynckes look like an attacking genius with these players (after he shores up the defense) and Lowe would have a team that matches (and, possibly excedes) the national team in terms of talent and the tactical fundamentals to execute his ideas. Again, we are looking for a balance to our defensive legacy by adding modern, attacking flare where the attackers need to run more and play defense. Just pure speculation…and, I'm curious what others think.

What you're saying is really laughable.

-

i may be the luckiest guy on earth if we get past Inter and we get a Schalke – Bayern tie, as i'll be in Gelsenkirchen the 5-6th April and in Munich from 14-18th April… the exact days in which CL QF take place…..damn i'm crossing my fingers already!!!
