Two return; One out; One rated doubtful

Welcome back Daniel! The evening before the return CL clash; Barcelona vs Bayern, Klinsmann gets a bit of good news. Philipp Lahm who has been out with a calf injury has been cleared and will return to the squad tomorrow. Alongside Lahm, Daniel van Buyten has returned to Munich. van Buyten has been on family leave due to a serious illness with his father. Good news on two fronts, Daniel’s father is responding to treatment and is doing better which led to Daniel’s return to the team. Both Lahm and van Buyten will be on Klinsmann’s roster for the second leg against Barca. Welcome back Daniel! And thank goodness for his dad doing better. :)

The Belgian’s “sheer presence and positive attitude” would be a boost for the team, a delighted Klinsmann declared after welcoming back the experienced centre-half, a commanding figure who has been painfully missed in Barcelona and elsewhere. The same applies to Lucio and Lahm, both missing for last week’s sobering reverse at Camp Nou, but now set to appear on Tuesday. “It will give us much greater stability,” Klinsmann observed.

Massimo Oddo is out with an ankle injury once more and will have to sit out this match against Barcelona. He has been bothered by the injury for some time, but has withdrawn from the match tomorrow. Also likely to miss the match is Lukas Podolski. He is rated as doubtful for the match due to a calf problem.

Good news. I see this game as the reverse of Sporting’s trip to the Allianz. We still know one of the teams would have a heck of a time progressing, but there’s still honor to be played for and the duty to try.

Not sure where your post is going bab, just see a bunch of scores…lol

What needs to happen today is Bayern needs to get 2 goals in the first half and then there will be reason to believe, and also it may put doubt in Barca. It is absolutely essential that the back line play flawlessly today. Any goals given up, and bayern will have to win by 5 which is highly unlikely. Getting to four is not very likely either, however, Barca is having the same problems in goal as Bayern is. This was not exploited at all last game because Bayern never got the ball out of their own end.

If Barca comes into the game like they have already won, then Bayern has a chance to stick it to them early and make this interesting.

I wonder if Klinnsy has thought about maybe playing DVB on the right side this game. Yes, I know it’s not something he has really played, but I am sure he’d be better at it than Lell, who I don’t even want on Bayern’s reserve team. It appears that Bayern has lost faith in Rensing, something a lot of us have done weeks ago. Yes he is very talented and has the physical talent to be a top flight keeper, however I’ve always believed that the mental aspect is over 50% of the game, and he is clearly lacking there.

I just want to see Bayern go out and show some heart today. If t hey don’t come back all the way, at least go out of CL with a bang. Make Barca work to move on. It is not realistic to think the can do this versus probably the best club in the world.

There is no way to excuse the performance of Bayern last time out, but it would have been nice to have Lamm, Klose, and Lucio or DVB in the lineup and played them with a full squad. I highly doubt it would have been 4-0.

Anyway, lets see Bayern put a 2-0 or 3-0 first half result and then get to see what Barca is made of and test their mettle. Nothing would be better than to actually pull off the impossible and shut the commentators who already have written Bayern off. They have pulled off miracles in the past.

Anyway, to move on… I will be clearly disappointed if Bayern does not go out and get at the very least a goaltender and a right back during the transfer period, or at the least see if Ze may want to play left back for a season and move Lamm to his more favored right side. Bayern has so many quality midfielders that moving one to right back would not deplete them at all. When you have Ribery, Ze, MVB, Schweinie, Altintop, Borowski, Sosa, Ottl, and 2 more midfielders incoming, it might be in their best advantage to start working one of them out on the backline now, maybe they can come up with an in house solution. As long as next years solution is not Lell…

We continue to hammer about Bayern hitting the transfer market, but with the worldwide economy in a slump, it may be unreasonable to ask for 2 players and replacing Rensing needs to be the priority. I am sure any of the midfielders who lack playing time would be happy to try out for the backline. Any of them would be a better option than Lell.

Man, Lell is playing RB again. Messi’s going to get more early Christmas presents (Easter presents?).

Roger: Just a quick comment about transfers in general. You know, ordinarily I would probably agree that it would be unreasonable to expect a transfer-o-rama in this economic climate–but, when you consider that they spent nothing in the transfer market prior to this season, it makes me think they do owe us some big signings. I suppose the counter argument is that they did spend on salary, by re-signing Lahm and Schweini for isntance.

All as I am saying is goaltender needs to be first priority. Hell, maybe some team would be stupid enough to buy Lell… Oddo will almost surely be returned to Milan… We will need a defender regardless, because just returning Oddo leaves us with just 6 healthy defenders… Money was spent in the winter transfer period on 3 players, 1 striker (needed) and 2 midfielders (why?).

I’m not saying Rensing can’t someday be the Bayern keeper, he just does not have the mental make up to do it now. Bayern is not a learn on the job type of team, and Butt is only a very short term solution.

Wow, if they only could get on target, so many good chances in the first half.

Anyway, if I had my way, I’d make a run at Grafite and sell off Toni if successful. Grafiti is far better on the ball, and would probably be an awesome compliment to Klose…

I have to disagree with Jurgen Klinsmann that we gave a good account of ourselves this morning. I thought the display was timid and patchy at best, and we in no way showed the kind of desire that Liverpool showed this morning!!

We still displayed the attitude of a beaten team, and yes there is a class differnece between us Barca. The only players I rate to being upto their standard was Ze, Lahm, and Ribery. Lucio and Demichelis both performed better today with each making good tackles and interceptions, if only they would play like that more often?

But Bayern, are carrying too many sub standard players like Lell, Ottl, and Oddo. I thought Sosa looked more promising today and he did create that wicked curling ball into the box that Toni made a hash off in the 5th minute of play!! If only Toni had buried that effort the match could have taken on a completely different complexion?
